On March 12, 2025, Van Hien University (VHU) hosted a meeting with representatives from Washington University of Science and Technology (WUST), USA, to explore potential academic collaboration.
During the discussion, both parties addressed key challenges in fostering cooperation between Vietnamese and American universities. These included the requirement for PhD research to be conducted directly in the U.S., Vietnamese students’ English proficiency not meeting the admission standards of U.S. universities, the high cost of studying abroad, and the difficulty in effectively implementing agreements in some Vietnamese institutions. Overcoming these challenges is crucial to enabling Vietnamese students to access quality international education.
With these obstacles in mind, the two universities explored feasible models for collaboration, such as 2+2 and transfer programs, English preparatory courses, and financial support solutions to make studying in the U.S. more accessible. Additionally, there was a discussion on legal education cooperation, though differences in legal systems posed challenges. Instead, both institutions saw greater potential in fields such as Information Technology, Business Administration, Food Technology, and Data Science in Healthcare, where WUST has strong academic offerings that align with VHU’s key programs.
Both sides expressed interest in designing specialized training programs that cater to industry needs while meeting academic standards in both countries. The meeting concluded with a commitment to further discussions, ensuring that future collaboration models provide practical benefits to students and foster global academic exchanges.
