Giai nhan ky ngo dien ca, Phan Chau Trinh’s experiment in six-eight narrative poems
Nguyen Hue Chi
This article, from the prosodiacal perspective, goes deeply
into new contri- butions as well as limitations of Phan Chau Trinh in adapting
the novel “Kajin no Kigù” of the enlightenment age literary in Meiji
Restoration by Japanese writer Tòkai Sanshi to the Vietnamese six-eight meter
poem. Using the theme and literature materials of a political novel, Phan Chau
Trinh incorporated 3 plots into his poem: a decisive plot with the structure as
meeting - catastrophe - wandering - the
work remains its traditional form of a poetry in Chinese- transcribed
Vietnamese but it is adapted from the wandering stage from the monolingual form
into the bilingual form and in the stage of union, using the union of the
“messenger” to emblem the real reunion of the protagonist; the adventure story
cage into the first one, but it is the style of a plot-to-lot; and contained in
the adventure story is a chain of historical narratives; whereby, the patriot
wishes that Vietnamese people will awake to go into the struggle for their
independence with a new ideal of democracy and freedom. The author ex-
perienced an extraordinary way and created a open structure for the narrative
poems in the new age. When building the characters, despite the influence of the
traditional style, even the mixture of two great poets - Nguyen Du and Nguyen
Dinh Chieu in terms of expressing the psychology and love, Phan Chau Trinh brought
dialogues into the story, changed the words so that the one-sided narra- tive turned
into interesting conflicts of art, the pure story turned into a two-layer context dialogues; thereby, he improved many weak spots
in building the lines of characters, that brought the
characters a chance to experience, unfold over
the course of the story, then the characters become lively. However, Phan’s
experi- ment was not completely successful because his poem words were not sharpened
well enough. Some verses seemed like rythmstanza. This might make his works
become a kind of popular literature. On the other hand, Phan’s noble efforts in
the French homeland did not come at the correct time, when the era of the novel
began to dominate the literature in the country and the era of Nom story had
almost been pushed back.

opinions on the novels in the Luc
tinh tan van
Bui Thanh Van
Vietnamese modern
literature sprouts from the press and so do the literature conceptions.
The conception of
novel in the Southern newspapers is quite an interesting issue. Despite its
dawn, its reasonings have been accompanying and made in- fluences on the
writings at the time. The Luc tinh tan van has also made great contridutions to
it.
The diputes
over the novels in Luc tinh tan van primarily
mention the nature of genres, development, writing and
reception of literature and therefore show the thinkings of the Southern
writers in the early 20th century and “the beat of the age”.

How to improve
the living conditions for farmers in mekong
Delta
Nguyen Thi Diem Chau
Mekong Delta is a fertile land for the development of rice
and fruits that bring highly economic
efficiency. However,
with the form of small-scale produc- tion, lack of technology, orientation, floating plants and lack of market informa- tion, the habitants have to
cultivate in the hereditary and luck based way.
The local people need to change their minds and improve the production
processes based on the market needs, then they can get rich on their own land.
Vietnam’s rice
export goes after only Thailand, but the Vietnamese farmers’ living standards are not comparable with Thailand’s despite their diligence,
hardworking and favorable natural conditions. Vietnamese farmers still suffer from “underpriced when having good crops”
situation, so their lives are still
precarious. Besides imposing the export price floors, the government should
have the price supporting policies for the farmers to ensure that agricultural
production is profitable. To get
this, it is necessary to do research and
calculate the cost of production and fix reasonable purchase price to be
consistent with the target that the agricultural products can make the profit
rate of at least 30 percent which has been unstable in the past years.
It is necessary to revitalize and expand the traditional
industries in order to cope with the unemployment, create new jobs for the
laborers and increase the farmers’ income.
