The University of Van Hien was established by Decision No. 517/TTg on July 11, 1997, and converted to private status by Decision No. 58/QD-TTg on December 28, 2016, issued by the Prime Minister of Vietnam Government. Aspiring to reach for culture and knowledge, preserve the tradition of learning, and train talents for society, Van Hien University chose the symbol of Khuê Văn Các, located in the precinct of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam, as its logo and emblem.
On November 8, 1999, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Decision No. 4833/QD-BGD&DT/DH allowing Van Hien University to offer 10 undergraduate programs,. The first enrollment for the university (1999 - 2003) welcomed over 900 students in fields such as Literature, English, Economics, Tourism, Computer Science, Sociology, and Psychology.
On October 31, 2012, the Hùng Hậu Development Joint Stock Company became the sole comprehensive investor of Van Hien University. With a dedication and spirit of service to the educational mission, after investing, Hung Hau Development Joint Stock Company is determined to build Van Hien University into an applied higher education institution with a diversity of training fields and curriculums oriented towards international integration, focusing on preserving and promoting the cultural identity of Vietnam and adapting flexibly to the country's socio-economic development needs, along with the educational philosophy of "Become a Virtuous Person Before Becoming Famous".
Throughout its formation and development, Van Hien University has been excellently fulfilling the criteria of training students to become global citizens, ready to integrate and adapt to work environments in many different countries,. Especially in training, the university consistently implements practical training programs, emphasizing foreign language proficiency and soft skills development for students,. These serve as a foundation helping students promote their abilities and assert themselves in enterprises and organizations. According to official annual surveys from the Corporate Cooperation Center, 96% of graduates are employed, with 92% working in their field of study or related areas, which serves as concrete evidence of the university's efforts in training high-quality human resources for society,.

In recent years, Van Hien University has continuously expanded its network of partnerships with reputable schools and organizations worldwide, such as South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Germany, Russia, France, Canada, etc,. These activities aim to link and exchange academic expertise, student exchange programs, international internship collaborations, and global employment.
Throughout its journey of formation and development, Van Hien University has earned the trust of learners and is recognized as a prestigious higher education institution in the Vietnamese university system. As a multi-disciplinary university offering various academic levels, the university currently provides 02 doctoral programs, 08 master's programs, and 43 undergraduate programs in fields such as Economics - Management, Tourism, Social Sciences - Communication, Engineering and Technology, Health, to name a few. The faculty consists of highly qualified experts, including leaders and managers from organizations and enterprises; therefore, the lectures for students are practical and highly professional-oriented.
In February 2019, Van Hien University officially became an associate member of the ASEAN University Network - Quality Assurance (AUN-QA).
On June 6, 2020, the university was honored to receive the decision and certification of institutional education quality accreditation.
On July 16, 2024, Van Hien University officially became a member of the ACBSP organization (USA), which is the next important step in the university's internationalization strategy.
On July 17, 2025, Van Hien University was honored to receive the decision and certification of the second cycle of institutional education quality accreditation.
To date, the university has achieved education quality accreditation according to AUN-QA standards for 02 regular undergraduate programs: Business Administration and Tourism and Travel Service Management.
Simultaneously, the university achieved education quality accreditation according to MOET standards for 01 master's program in Vietnamese Literature and 11 regular undergraduate programs: Japanese, Chinese, Information Technology, Hotel Management, English, Psychology, Oriental Studies, Tourism, Sociology, Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering, and Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

Van Hien University is undergoing rapid and continuous transformation, gradually implementing digital transformation to align with the Industry 4.0 era – the digitalization era that serves as a vital foundation for multi-disciplinary educational development. The human resources are strengthened, and the facilities are increasingly modern to meet the academic and extracurricular demands of students. At the beginning of 2021, the university's campus on Nguyen Van Linh Avenue, Southern City Urban Area, was officially put into operation with a total area of 60,000m2.
With unity, consensus, dedication, and confidence in the university's educational orientation and training mission, the faculty, lecturers, and staff are determined to collaborate to build and develop Van Hien University into a stronger institution, so that every student, lecturer, and staff member can take pride in being a member under the common roof of VAN HIEN UNIVERSITY.
