The workshop “Sustainable Development of Vietnam’s Sea and Island Tourism in The Integration Era” was held on 19th August 2016. This event focused on the management and exploitation of sea resources and maritime sovereignty protection following the Government and Communist Party’s strategy in developing sea and island economy. Simultaneously, the workshop also aimed to improve the responsibilities of administrative offices, firms, and people in maintaining and preserving sea and island resources.
39 presentations have been sent to the workshop, showing some main issues as follows:
• Assessing and determining the potentials of Vietnam’s sea and island tourism development
• Prominent advantages of coastal provinces in developing specific kinds of tourism
• Necessary and sufficient conditions for sustainable development of Vietnam’s sea and island tourism in the integration era
• Human resource development for sea and island tourism
• Environmental protection and Defense Security in using sea and island resources to develop Vietnam tourism
The participants have suggested different solutions to develop sea and island tourism such as protecting the sea environment, organizing traditional festivals, promoting with competitive prices, etc. Local people are also the main force of tourist-attractive activities thanks to their experiences. Especially, tourism must also foster the promotion to introduce sea and island products and featured destinations. Besides, improving product and service quality is also the primary factor to attract and retain visitors.
Ideas and solutions presented and discussed at the workshop have contributed to the development of tourism, in general, and sustainable development if Vietnam’s sea and island tourism, in particular.
