Dr.Thuy Dinh from Western Sydney came for Training Sessions on Research Skills at Van Hien University

On the 19th and 22nd of December 2023, the Department of Scientific Management and International Cooperation at Van Hien University organized two research training sessions conducted by Dr. Thuy Dinh from Western Sydney University, with the participate registration of nearly 60 faculty, staff, students, and researchers.

Western Sydney University, established in 1989, is one of Australia's leading educational institutions with a strong focus on social sciences. Dr. Thuy Dinh currently serves as the Research, Education, and Graduate Learning Program Manager at Western Sydney University, overseeing the development of education and research programs for graduate students, designing supervisory training programs, and coordinating research development initiatives. Previously, Dr. Thuy Dinh served as a research advisor at Charles Darwin University, organizing workshops on research writing and digital documentation, providing research advice across various disciplines, and has eight years of experience as a lecturer and academic advisor at Monash University, receiving numerous awards for research and teaching. Dr. Thuy Dinh holds a PhD in Linguistics from Monash University, with research interests in Cultural Linguistics and International English.

December 19, 2023 - Topic 1: Qualitative Research in Social Sciences & Scholarly Publishing Strategies

During this training session, Dr. Thuy Dinh shared valuable experiences and strategies regarding qualitative research in social sciences and scholarly publishing. The session took place from 9:00 to 11:30 at Room HEC510, HEC Campus. Discussions included revisiting the concept of research and researchers, exploring practical applications of research methods in social sciences, and discussing publishing strategies from idea development to maximizing publication impact. The session emphasized examples, scenarios, and case studies to encourage participant reflection.

 

December 22, 2023 - Topic 2: Critical & Creative Thinking in Research & Top Tips for Research Writing

The second training session focused on critical and creative thinking in research, along with essential tips for research writing. It was held from 18:30 to 20:30 at Room DPH009, 613 Campus. Dr. Thuy Dinh introduced critical and creative thinking in research and effective implementation strategies. Additionally, the session addressed enhancing writing skills to reflect these abilities and writing a good research paper. Dr. Thuy Dinh provided examples, exercises, and encouraged participants to share their research, writing, and teaching experiences.

 

Following both training sessions, a total of 41 faculty, staff, students, and researchers participated and completed assignments to receive certificates. Through these sessions, the Department of Scientific Management and International Cooperation at Van Hien University provided opportunities for members to access new knowledge and critical strategies in scientific research. Dr. Thuy Dinh's guidance and sharing imparted valuable knowledge and insights to the university's research community.
