Work experience: Vietnamese Studies Department Explores Traditional Pottery Craft in Binh Duong

On December 13, 2023, the Department of Social Sciences and Communication organized a field trip and work experience 'Understanding the Traditional Pottery Craft' in Binh Duong for freshman majoring in Vietnamese Studies.

Guided by Dr. Huynh Thi Mai Trinh, Head of Division of the Literature Department, and Mr. Tran Dinh Huy, Lecturer at the Department of Social Sciences and Communication, the experience provided valuable academic and practical insights into the history of traditional Vietnamese craft villages for the visitors.

The destination for this workexperience was Dai Hung Pottery Kiln, a longstanding handcrafted pottery facility in Binh Duong, recognized as a Provincial Heritage Site by the Binh Duong Provincial People's Committee in 2006.

This experiential journey allowed Vietnamese Studies students to gain practical knowledge about the traditional craft industry, fostering profound perceptions and foundational insights into the laborious yet creative work of the craft artisans. It also sparked enthusiasm among the students for their future academic pursuits and specialization experience.

The touring group had the opportunity to meet Mr. Tam Giang, the owner of Dai Hung Pottery Kiln, who shared stories about the craft's history and introduced various traditional pottery products, as well as the production processes of items like pots, plates, and jars that the kiln specializes in. Vietnamese Studies students actively engaged in discussions, posing questions, and exchanging insights with Mr. Tam Giang about the traditional pottery craft in Vietnam, particularly in Binh Duong and Dai Hung.
