The program comprises 10 pieces by Associate Professor, People's Teacher Hoàng Cương, performed in various genres and with different musical instruments.

‘Tình ca tháng 4’ is a special performance program dedicated by Master Mạch Thị Mỹ Thanh (lecturer at the Faculty of Arts, Van Hien University) to her students and music enthusiasts in Ho Chi Minh City. The program features 10 pieces by Associate Professor, People's Teacher Hoàng Cương, presented in diverse styles and instrumentation.

Master Mỹ Thanh explains that she chose Hoàng Cương's music for this performance to create an ideal environment for students to explore Vietnamese instrumental music on piano, violin, and vocals after their studies and practice at school. She emphasizes the limited time constraints within educational settings for instructors to incorporate diverse Vietnamese instrumental music, making programs like this an opportunity for both herself and her students to experiment with high-quality works by local composers.

Master Mỹ Thanh wants to inspire Students Through ‘Tình ca tháng 4’ Mini Concert

Instead of selecting pieces from multiple composers like previous programs, Master Mỹ Thanh focuses on introducing songs and compositions deeply influenced by Hoàng Cương's signature style, as a tribute to the composer and to help the audience gain a deeper understanding of his creative approach. Teacher Hoàng Cương, a distinguished educator, currently has nearly 50 compositions, many of which have left their mark in the stream of music. Pieces like Dòng suối vắng, Đêm sao, Vũ khúc, Hành khúc Dế Mèn, Hạt bụi, Vẽ tình yêu trên cát, Tình ca, Dòng sông lời ru, Khúc chiều… are artfully arranged to narrate to the audience about the vibrant melodies of life, the journey of exploring the surrounding world, and the sweetness of love.

'Love Song' is the only piece performed with the violin in this program. It's a highly renowned piece by composer Hoàng Việt, rearranged by Teacher Hoàng Cương for the violin, aiming to offer a fresh experience for listeners. 'This is one of the ten out of nearly fifty pieces I've composed. What touched me the most is that after over 40 years of waiting, through this program, I finally had the opportunity to introduce a gentle yet deeply meaningful song to everyone. That song is ‘Dòng sông lời ru’ set to the poetry of author Lương Thị Minh Thảo. Many years ago, I stumbled upon this poem in a newspaper and was deeply impressed, despite its simple and rustic verses. I composed this song back in the 1970s, but it hadn't had the chance to be performed before,' emotionally shared Teacher Hoàng Cương.

‘Tình ca tháng 4’ will take place on the afternoon of April 24th at the Showroom Steinway & Sons, Crescent Mall (District 7), featuring singers Thanh Nga, Như Ngọc, Võ Thành Tâm, Thái Hòa; pianists Mỹ Thanh, Hoàng Lâm, Phi Anh, Nguyên Nhi, Yến Nhi, Bảo Minh, and violinist Đinh Lữ. The program is designed to be concise, comprising five instrumental pieces for piano, four vocal songs with piano accompaniment, and one piece for violin. The special aspect of the program is the participation of guest performers who are vocal instructors and piano students, along with Master Mỹ Thanh from Van Hien University. Despite being busy with organizing and supporting students, Master Mỹ Thanh herself will participate in playing the piano accompaniment for four vocal songs and one violin piece. Master Mỹ Thanh hopes that the bonding during the rehearsal, performance, and interaction will inspire students to take a greater interest in the treasure trove of Vietnamese music.

The interactive sessions and insights from Teacher Hoàng Cương during the event will help students understand more about Vietnamese instrumental music through the creative process behind his iconic compositions.
Through ‘Tình ca tháng 4’ Master Mỹ Thanh demonstrates her commitment to nurturing musical talent and fostering an appreciation for Vietnamese compositions. Her goal is to encourage students to explore and appreciate Vietnamese composers more deeply in their practice and performance endeavors.
